iPhone Duo: Your TV app is ready for Apple's first foldable
When your subscribers unfold their new iPhone Duo, will your TV app fill the bigger screen, or show a stretched phone layout?
ModernTV apps for iOS are ready for the iPhone Duo. Your subscribers can watch live TV, the TV guide and recordings on both of its screens.
Apple's first foldable iPhone went on sale on October 23, 2026, in more than 70 countries, and in 28 more a week later (Apple Newsroom). Counterpoint Research expects about 6 million units to sell this year. IDC expects Apple to ship more than 10 million foldable iPhones in their first year, and the whole foldable market to grow 12.6% in 2026 (Bloomberg).
One phone, two screen sizes
Folded, the iPhone Duo is a 5.4-inch phone. Unfolded, it becomes a 7.6-inch screen that is close to a small tablet. Most iPhone apps were built for a narrow portrait screen, and many of them simply lock that layout.
Picture a viewer who follows the first half of a match on the folded phone on the bus. At home, she unfolds the phone, and the match keeps playing. The app rearranges itself for the larger screen, with the video on top and the channel list below.

The same features on both screens
Nothing disappears when the phone changes shape. Player controls, the channel list, the TV guide and recordings are available whether the phone is folded or unfolded.
When the phone is folded, the system keeps a strip along one side of the screen for its own toolbar. The app moves its content away from that strip, so nothing hides under it.
How it works
The app checks the shape of the screen it gets: its aspect ratio, and whether the system shows a side toolbar. It then picks the layout that fits.
The ModernTV app for iOS gets this change in a regular App Store update. White-label apps built on it receive it with their next release.
